Meeting Location: Webster University, Webster Groves, MO

      Summary

Hello, from Webster AES! We have been getting back in the swing of things! After our January pizza meeting, we discussed Album Aesthetics with students. Students and officers brought in songs they enjoy and go into detail about the aspects of the mix. At the next meeting, we had a vocal mic shoot-out between the Shure SM7b (a dynamic mic), the Neumann u87 (a large diaphragm condenser), and the Neumann m147 (a tube mic). Together we discussed which microphone captures dynamics well, what fits the sound the artist is looking for, and which compliments their voice.

February started with a meeting on recording acoustic guitar and vocals. We showed different techniques when micing them together without having too much bleed or phasing. In the next meeting, we brought two Audio in Media Arts students, Julien Schilly and Nick
Santangelo, to speak on Post-Production in film. They broke down the work involved in making your favorite movies stand out! Outside of our weekly meetings, we took a tour of Firebrand Recording’s new studio, hosted by owner, Brian Scheffer. We ended the month with a meeting on transducers with guest speaker, Mike Biffignani. Lastly, we are finalizing panels and scheduling our 18th annual Central Region Audio Student Summit!
