BS.1116 has been used as a reference document for subjective listening tests for many years. This new revision, "... further recommends that further studies of the characteristics of listening rooms and reproduction devices for the advanced sound system are needed and this Recommendation should be updated when those studies are completed." It specifically introduces listening tests for quality of "advanced sound system" with an emphasis on timbral and spatial quality, which may be, I think, relevant for project AES-X218, "Measurement and calibration of sound systems in rooms". Comparing quickly with previous revision BS.1116-1, the changes appear to be in new clauses: 5.4 Advanced sound system; 8.3.3.4 Reference sound field conditions/ Impulse response; 8.5.5 Listening arrangements/ Reproduction of advanced sound system A free download of this ITU-R document is available at: http://www.itu.int/rec/R-REC-BS.1116-2-201406-I/en regards, Mark Yonge AES Standards Manager standards at aes.org tel: +44 1594 517200 skype: markyonge Previous message: [SC-04-08] AES 137 In Los Angeles Fast Approaching Next message: [SC-04-08] Revision of ITU-R BS.1116-2 Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] More information about the SC-04-08 mailing list Expand 000182.html 3 KB HTML - Click to view Options Copy Download Link [SC-04-08] Revision of ITU-R BS.1116-2 pre { white-space: pre-wrap; /* css-2.1, curent FF, Opera, Safari */ } [SC-04-08] Revision of ITU-R BS.1116-2 John Woodgate jmw at jmwa.demon.co.uk Tue Aug 19 09:57:13 MDT 2014 Previous message: [SC-04-08] Revision of ITU-R BS.1116-2 Next message: [SC-04-08] Revision of ITU-R BS.1116-2 Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] In message <62C038FF-ED15-4EEE-97A7-8867BA3C6A48 at aes.org>, dated Tue, 19 Aug 2014, Mark Yonge <standards at aes.org> writes: >It specifically introduces listening tests for quality of "advanced >sound system" with an emphasis on timbral and spatial quality, I noticed words in 'Timbral quality' on page 8 that I don't like: 'equalization' and 'fidelity'. A direct login is available for SC-04-08 members at: https://secure.aes.org/standards/documents/?ID=91 The two topics you mention will be discussed under liaison projects AES-X215 and AES-X216 during the SC-04-08 meeting next Thursday, as noted in the SC-04-08 agenda posted at http://www.aes.org/standards/meetings/. You mention requesting comments on a "Modern Calibration Recommended Practice", however I find we do not have a copy and I have not been able to find it on the SMPTE web site. Could you forward a copy so that members of this standards working group may have an opportunity to read and understand it before Thursday's meeting? The report is too large for emailing. https://www.smpte.org/standards/reports The report is also the topic of the Sound for Picture workshop SP3, at 2:00PM on Saturday, October 11, co-sponsored by the SMPTE. The discussion will include SMPTE 25CSS Co-Chair Brian Vessa, Drafting Group Chair Neil Shaw, and AES Fellow David Murphy. I'd like to thank all the AES Members who participated in this SMPTE work, which I proposed to the SMPTE originally in December of 2009. This is work that has long been needed in the film industry, and the AES expertise proved vital in preparing this report. These contributors include Dr. Floyd Toole, Philip Newell, Kurt Graffy, and special kudos to Glenn Leembruggen. The report provides a good catalyst for the further work necessary to produce new Standards, and some areas that need further study. All good topics for the upcoming AES 57th Conference in Hollywood, California - March 6-8, 2015.
