Summary
On Monday, May 27, the AES-TAMABA section attended the Practical Certification in Radiofrequency with Shure equipment, organized by Tevelam and conducted by Patricio Bertato, a technical specialist from the company.
The training began with an introduction to the basic principles of electromagnetic waves, including propagation, wavelengths, differences and similarities in the behavior of acoustic waves, the electromagnetic spectrum, and bandwidths. Subsequently, it delved into Shure equipment, covering topics such as reception and transmission antennas (active or passive), pickup and transmission patterns, power, physical structure of the antenna, antenna placement, and fundamental rules like “antennas must see each other” for better reception.
Audio encoding aspects for RF transmission were also addressed, including equipment operating in VHF and UHF, their differences, advantages, and disadvantages, as well as diversity systems and their variants.
After a 30-minute coffee break, the second block of the training focused on Shure’s Workbench program. This segment covered the management and calibration of different devices, both with in-ear equipment and microphones. Topics discussed included labeling, spectrum scanning, power levels and noise floor, restriction of areas of the electromagnetic spectrum, and signal checking at different points on the stage, both without and with an audience.
Finally, a Q&A session was held with the attendees, and certificates of attendance were distributed.
This training provided a valuable opportunity for participants to acquire practical and theoretical knowledge about the use and handling of Shure radiofrequency equipment, highlighting the importance of proper implementation and calibration to ensure optimal performance in professional applications.
